2018 KIA Stinger have recently unveiled their plan for world domination. It involves their most anticipated (and sporty) model ever produced by them, the Kia Stinger. Whether it can truly take on the competition from the likes of Cadillac, Audi and BMW remains to be seen, but the specs look right, as does the styling.
The Stinger concept was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show all the way back in 2011, then a minor revision again in 2014, before Kia finally pulled the trigger and started developing it seriously for release as a 2018 model.
Although we are seeing prototypes and concepts at car shows now, we don’t expect to see the proper production models of the 2018 Kia Stinger to hit the showrooms until late 2017, at the very earliest, we think it will be the third quarter, perhaps even later. Kia have released no pricing structures whatsoever, and given that it’s a new model, we can’t use the existing price, but looking at the specs and some of the competition, we’d think that a starting price in the region of $36,000 would be right.
2018 KIA Stinger Specs
It’s not so much about redesign and changes as to what we will get. Given that we’re talking about a performance car, let’s start with the powertrain options. The base model will have a 2.0 liter 255 BHP 4-cylinder turbo charged engine, while the flagship model will be fitted with a 3.3 liter V6 with twin turbos, this will be enough to push the power up to 365 BHP (and a top speed of 167 MPH). Both engines will be mated to an 8-speed auto transmission, which in the V6 version will see a 0 – 60 MPH done in 5.7 seconds. Quick enough.
2018 KIA Stinger have also promised that even the base model will be packed with tech; adaptive cruise control, 7” touchscreen and navigation, TFT instrument screen, automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assist, whereas the V6 will also have a Heads Up Display (HUD) adaptive dampers and wireless device charging. The V6 will also have upgraded Brembo brakes and 19” wheels as standard (whereas the 2.0 liter has 18” wheels). The Stinger has been designed by Kia’s European design studio and it shows; it keeps the signature ‘Tiger nose’ grille, but everything else is all new, some may even think it has a little Italian flair in the styling.
